Recently we completed a remodel in Forest Heights which was a feature article in Houzz.com.  This was such a great project to work on and I had a wonderful team!

My Houzz: A Horse Lover’s Stylish Portland Retreat

With a wine room, a yoga studio and plenty of supercomfy spots, this Oregon home puts the good life through its paces

Written by Georgia Perry

Marian Weidow’s four favorite things are color, copper, horses and wine. With that in mind, Weidow worked closely with Lori Brock and Danielle McGrain of Brock Design Group, and local general contractor Dave Schuetze of Joshua Construction, to revamp her 1990s Portland home. The use of unique light fixtures, bright paint and equine accessories resulted in a country oasis where Weidow can relax and recharge after her busy days as a jet-setting executive.Houzz at a Glance
Who lives here: Marian Weidow, an executive at Nike
Location: Forest Heights neighborhood of Portland, Oregon
Size: 3,000 square feet; 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, yoga studio
Screen shot 2012 08 01 at 7.39.52 AM 300x256 Brock Designs Update Featured on Houzz.comWeidow grew up in Arizona, so she wanted a home that incorporated a distinctly Southwestern look. “Lori really hit it out of the park,” she says. “The excellent craftsmanship and attention to details have made this a place I always want to come home to.”In the foyer, guests are greeted by a chorus line of Weidow’s many colorful cowboy boots. She alternates them while riding her four horses. The framed black and white photo is of Weidow horseback riding.
Screen shot 2012 08 01 at 7.43.14 AM 300x209 Brock Designs Update Featured on Houzz.comThe first thing Brock designed was Weidow’s wine room. “She was storing wine in every closet of the house,” says Brock. Through the glass doors, Weidow’s wine is stored at a comfortable 61 degrees at all times. Brock’s colleague, Aaron Velasquez, created the Venetian plaster walls.Table: Liberty Furniture with custom copper banding by Justin Rees of Keep It Custom

The tall built-in bookcase cabinets were previously stained in a yellow color. Brock worked with artisan Adrienne Wannamaker to treat them with a custom gray finish to match the kitchen cabinets. “If something is working, you can fix it. There’s no point in wasting all that wood and labor to build something similar,” says McGrain. The cracked leather of the light brown couch adds to the rustic aesthetic.Throw pillows: custom by Brock Designs; lamp with square shade: Bellacor

HOME TOUR – Modern Romance On The Water

Brock Designs, Portland OR. Interior Design Company

On a beautiful lagoon on Kiawah Island in South Carolina’s Low Country, sits a gorgeous home built by architect Christopher Rose.  The modern open floor plan of the “Lips Room” House (you will see why below) was recently featured on Houzz.com by architect Bud Dietrich where he described the home’s design concept. “A desire to maximize those lagoon views while ensuring the structure could withstand hurricanes and earthquakes drove the home’s design. The extensive use of glass on the back side of the home captures these views while the front is a bit more traditional in design. “  Float away in the breathtaking beauty of this home….

HOME TOUR – The Wabi Sabi House

Brock Designs, Portland OR. Interior Design Company

In the spirit of sticking to our theme this week, I thought it would be great to share this Wabi Sabi house with you.  Take a look at this award winning Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen design.  It is a beautifully minimalistic way of living!

At first look, you might think this home is incomplete or under-staged, however, this is a perfect example of the Wabi Sabi design style.  The simple living, clean lines and imperfect nature of the wood and furniture is so peaceful and real.  This is a favorite of mine.

Have a great weekend and enjoy!  Remember to do something that makes YOU happy……..

HOME TOURS – A Swedish Sanctuary

Brock Designs, Portland OR. Interior Design Company

As we look forward to the weekend, I want to take a quick moment and whisk you away to Sweden, well actually Florida, to inspire the calm and tranquil feel we are all looking for!  This design combines the elegance of 1930′s Swedish Classicism with the charming vernacular of turn-of-the-century wooden American seaside resort houses.  Feast your eyes on this….

I love the classic sophistication and character of this house.  The contrast of the beautiful dark wood and the white cabinetry ground the space and give it dimension.   The pops of blue and yellow colors throughout the house gives you the feeling of warmth and sunshine even if you don’t live in a southern coastal region.

This weekend, be sure and take a little time for yourself, whether it is organizing a room to make you breathe easier, or just sitting and reading a book, make sure you do something that is important to you and your sense of well-being.  It’s a great start to a new year – enjoy life!
