STYLE FILES – Making Your Guest Feel Welcome

Portland OR. Interior Design Company

When my home is filled with family and friends coming from out of town for a visit, I love finding little ways that help them feel welcome for their stay.  Here are some beautiful guest rooms for inspiration and a few favorite ways to help my guests feel that extra touch of love.

TIP: Light it up – Have a great bedside lamp for guests to read in bed and wind down.   When you aren’t familiar with the layout of the bedroom, turning out the light at the door can cause some stubbed toes!  You can also add that special little touch of leaving some of your favorite books on the night stand for your guests.

TIP: Essentials – Leave a few essentials in the room to make it more convenient for your guest, a few bottles of water, towels and a clock to name just a few.

TIP: Add Fresh Linens – Putting fresh and clean linens on the bed will give that luxury hotel feel.  Don’t forget to add an extra quilt or blanket on the end of the bed for those cold nights.

TIP: Get rid of as much clutter as you can to make it feel simply and fresh.

TIP: Create room in a closet for your guest to hang their clothes and stow away their belongings.

Recently we completed a remodel in Forest Heights which was a feature article in Houzz.com.  This was such a great project to work on and I had a wonderful team!

My Houzz: A Horse Lover’s Stylish Portland Retreat

With a wine room, a yoga studio and plenty of supercomfy spots, this Oregon home puts the good life through its paces

Written by Georgia Perry

Marian Weidow’s four favorite things are color, copper, horses and wine. With that in mind, Weidow worked closely with Lori Brock and Danielle McGrain of Brock Design Group, and local general contractor Dave Schuetze of Joshua Construction, to revamp her 1990s Portland home. The use of unique light fixtures, bright paint and equine accessories resulted in a country oasis where Weidow can relax and recharge after her busy days as a jet-setting executive.Houzz at a Glance
Who lives here: Marian Weidow, an executive at Nike
Location: Forest Heights neighborhood of Portland, Oregon
Size: 3,000 square feet; 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, yoga studio

She alternates them while riding her four horses. The framed black and white photo is of Weidow horseback riding.

Through the glass doors, Weidow’s wine is stored at a comfortable 61 degrees at all times. Brock’s colleague, Aaron Velasquez, created the Venetian plaster walls.Table: Liberty Furniture with custom copper banding by Justin Rees of Keep It Custom

The tall built-in bookcase cabinets were previously stained in a yellow color. Brock worked with artisan Adrienne Wannamaker to treat them with a custom gray finish to match the kitchen cabinets. “If something is working, you can fix it. There’s no point in wasting all that wood and labor to build something similar,” says McGrain. The cracked leather of the light brown couch adds to the rustic aesthetic.Throw pillows: custom by Brock Designs; lamp with square shade: Bellacor

STYLE FILES: Five Fabulous Bedrooms Before and After

Brock Designs, Portland OR. Interior Design Company

This week is all about welcoming change and putting it in a positive light.  Simple changes to the interior of our home is a great way to lift us up and make us feel inspired and motivated.  Here are 5 fantastic before and afters of some favorite bedrooms to get you started!

With some simple paint, lighting and accessories, this Brock Design Group project transformed a plain, boring room into an elegant guest room.  The result is a warm and inviting space everyone would want to stay in.

Changing the light fixture, bed and a few accessories really helped lighten the look and feel of this bedroom!  I love the chandelier and the four poster bed that fits just perfectly inside the window.

I hope that you enjoyed these bedroom makeovers and can see how uplifting a little transformation can be.  Don’t be afraid of change and the wonderful things that it can bring!
